Ok, I tried the soaking on a vinegared paper towel, and that worked a little, baking soda didn't do much, but putting salt on it did the trick. I remember my grandmother teaching me how to shine copper bottom pots with salt, vinegar and elbow grease, so the chemical reaction is powerful. my website
